Tue, 17 Feb 2009 20:31:20 +0000 – President Obama is using up much more of his political capital then he might even realize. The Republicans are screaming about his stimulus package today on talk radio and cable television where they are engaged in an all-out assault on him and his bill. They are banging away at Senator Harry Reid about the high speed rail link between L.A. and Las Vegas. — OK, not my first choice for a location but the fact is we need high speed rail in many locations.
The Republicans need to stop complaining. The money was voted on and is going to be spent. What they should do is provide non-partisan oversight and make sure that it goes to where it should go to and not turn another Katrina-style recovery effort with some money left unspent or poorly spent.
The GOP needs to ride the administration hard with real concerns. For instance they could monitor the FCC and make sure that they “study” the broadband issue quickly and get out the money to rural and under served areas. Republicans need to act as the loyal opposition and stand up as Americans who care not just as the naysayers of talk media.
